Under supervision/guidance of a Statistician or more senior Statistical Assistant, provides effective statistical assistance to an essential function of the unit in an efficient and timely manner.

Duties and Responsibilities
Resilient and agile national statistical systems: Improving Production and Communication of SDG Data to Leave No One Behind through modernization and improved coordination. Within delegated authority, Statistical Assistants will be responsible for the following duties: • Assists in data collection, compilation and dissemination. • Generates tables and graphs. • Participates in the review and compilation of background materials. • Assists in evaluating and examining data sets for accuracy, clarity and validity from different sources. • Compiles basic statistical series for comparison against different sources. • Updates statistical series in established formats for upload into the data portal and maintenance of relevant computerized databases. • Participate in drafting statistical reports and provides statistics and information for publication. • Assist in liaising with national statistical offices and focal points in the United Nations system organizations to obtain necessary statistical and other relevant information. • Prepares data sets upon request; responds to queries/requests. • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications/special skills
A bachelor’s degree in statistics, economics finance or related area is required. All candidates must submit a copy of the required educational degree. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed. A minimum of 2 years of experience in research and data analysis is required. Proficiency in Excel is required. Experience is drafting reports is required.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat; and Arabic is a working language of ESCWA. For this position, fluency in English is required. Fluency in Arabic is desirable. Note: “Fluency” equals a rating of ‘fluent’ in all four areas (speak, read, write, and understand) and “Knowledge of” equals a rating of ‘confident’ in two of the four areas.

Recruitment for this position is on a local basis. The incumbent is required to have the legal right to live and work in the specified working location.
