icddr,b is a Bangladesh-based international health research institute that strives to solve key public health problems through high-quality scientific research and innovation. Icddr,b as a values-based organization encourages women and people with disabilities.
The primary objective of the project, which is under the Programme for Emerging Infections, is to identify the precise cause of death of stillbirths and children under five, and to perform mortality surveillance across different hospitals in the Faridpur and Rajbari districts. The project is generating high-quality data in collaboration with the Government of Bangladesh and engaging various government and non-government stakeholders. This evidence-based approach will ultimately help improve maternal and child health by data to action activities.
Brief Description of Position:
The Statistician reporting to Senior IT Development Specialist will be mainly responsible for performing following duties and responsibilities:
- Explore statistical research ideas;
- Develop conceptual framework;
- Create statistical research hypothesis and objectives;
- Align research hypothesis and objectives with goals of the centre;
- Finalise research hypothesis, methodology and timelines;
- Provide support to researchers in developing research methods and tools;
- Resolve queries / questions related to the soundness of methodology;
- Prepare manuscript / research report in collaboration with co-authors;
- Share draft manuscript with co-authors;
- Coordinate with journals for publication;
- Develop statistical analysis and conduct data modelling on the research data;
- Resolve queries and issues related to statistical analysis;
- Administer all kinds of data forms;
- Work with supervisor for data analysis and prepare documentation of data set;
- Prepare dashboard, reports and presentations;
- Create script of the database;
- Download data periodically received from the field;
- Backup database regularly on a separate location in cloud and computers;
- Produce summary report in a regular basis;
- Take corrective action as directed by supervisor in order to retrieve data and provide cleaned versions to supervisor.
Required qualification and experience:
- Masters in Statistics / Bio-statistics / Applied Statistics from a reputed university;
- Minimum 5 years of experiences in relevant field preferable in child health project, health research and/or demographic surveillance system;
- Very good knowledge and skill in Survey and Surveillance data analysis;
- Must have good knowledge in Statistical package like STATA/ R/ SPSS and SQL
- Can work independently.
- Able to manage and work under stress.
Location: Dhaka.
Contract Type and duration:
- Fixed Term; duration will be 01 years with a possibility of extension subject to availability of fund and performance.
Salary & benefits:
- Annual Tk. 15,31,970/- inclusive of house rent, conveyance, and other admissible benefits;
- 14.8% provident fund contribution, income tax paid by icddr,b, children allowance @Tk.1,917/- per child per month, festival bonus, contributory healthcare support including dependent spouse and children, group life insurance, and subsidized canteen. Transport and daycare facilities are subject to space availability.
