Poor health conditions and malnutrition are major issues confronting the influx of Forcibly Displaced Myanmar Nationals (FDMN). We need to prepare ourselves to control the situation and to prevent deaths and disabilities in FDMN children suffering from severe acute malnutrition (SAM). This study is therefore going to assess the effectiveness of the local Nutrition Managements for the treatment of SAM in Bangladesh. The assigned position for this project will be delegated with the overall clinical responsibility of the study conducted at the selected “Integrated Nutrition Facilities” (INFs) located at FDMN Camps under Teknaf/Ukhiya, Cox’ Bazar.
Key Responsibilities:
The Study Physicians will report to Principal Investigator (PI) to provide overall support in research activities with SAM children at INFs located in the FDMN camps. The physician will be responsible for clinical examination according to the study protocol and as well as documentation; provide clinical management to the patients and perform study-specific clinical assessment and follow-up within the guidelines of research protocols and in accordance with organizational values and guidelines. Following are the major duties and responsibilities of the position:
- The study physician should notify eligible SAM children for inclusion in the study through physical examination;
- The study physician should perform routine physical examinations and treat the children participating in the study;
- Observe, guide, and provides feedback on his/her subordinates who are taking physical measurements as part of routine work;
- Follow-up as per predefined protocol to review response to intervention, SAE reporting;
- The study physician should timely refer complicated SAM children to an appropriate center (e.g., stabilization center) and follow up;
- Update supervisor on any modifiable events of included participants;
- Ensure continuous progress monitoring and constantly improvise the project implementation processes;
- Maintain professional relationships and develop a good rapport with UNICEF, partner NGOs and other stakeholders;
- Resolve any queries and escalate appropriate issues;
- Prepare reports and share findings with the supervisor in order to execute activities in accordance with the research protocol.
Required qualifications and experience:
- MBBS degree from a Medical College recognized by the Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council with completion of one-year internship training;
- At least one-year experience in the field of humanitarian program implementation, given particular focus on management of the children with severely acute malnutrition;
- Preference will be given to applicants from local residents and who have experience working with the FDMN communities;
- Knowledge of national health & nutrition stakeholder community, including national nutrition & health policies, priorities and processes, institutions and networks;
- Skills in leading Nutrition/MCHN program in terms of implementation, monitoring and evaluation of community-based health and nutrition activities.
Location: Teknaf or Ukhiya, Cox’s Bazar.
Contract Type and duration:
- CSA basis for 5 months with a possibility of extension subject to availability of fund and performance.
Salary & benefits:
- 83,030/- (consolidated) per month inclusive of house rent and conveyance allowances.
- Festival bonus, income tax paid by icddr,b and subsidized canteen. Transport and daycare facilities are subject to space availability.
