Study Physician (Adv#292/2023)

Current recommendations of nutrient intakes for adults including women are derived for and applicable to healthy, well-nourished populations. The amounts of vitamins and minerals, referred to as micronutrients, needed to achieve a sufficiency state in undernourished settings are not determined. This randomized controlled trial will determine the minimum acceptable amounts of vitamins and minerals required to attain nutrient adequacy among women of reproductive age, as well during pregnancy, in an undernourished setting where poor diets prevail and where women harbor a high burden of infection and nutrient deficiencies.


Key Responsibilities:

The Study Physician will report to the Principal Investigator and will be responsible for planning, organizing, and performing specific study procedures with the objective of collecting high-quality research data within the guidelines of the research protocols and organizational values. She/he will be engaged in multiple tasks assigned by the PI, which include:

  • Work with the supervisor and develop concept notes and research proposals;
  • Assist in developing a detailed research design, study implementation plan, data collection tool, and study methodology;
  • Contribute to study protocol writing and obtaining IRB approval;
  • Train and supervise field staff on data collection, sample collection procedure, and field implementation;
  • Supervise, guide, and provide feedback on overall field activities and monitor his/her subordinates on the study activities;
  • Under the guidance of PI, apply rigorous scientific analysis to derive meaningful scientific inferences from data;
  • Travel to different field sites to check and monitor study activities;
  • Take part in screening, perform study-related clinical responsibilities, and prepare different reports;
  • Prepare reports and share findings with the supervisor in order to execute activities in accordance with the research protocol;
  • Maintain professional relationships and develop a good rapport with the Donor and other stakeholders;
  • Other duties as assigned by the supervisor to ensure quality implementation and contribution to the project and organization.

Required qualifications and experience:

  • MBBS degree from a reputed medical college recognized by the Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council with completion of one-year internship training;
  • At least 1 year of work experience in community based randomized controlled trials;
  • Candidates will be given preference who have working experience in studies related to maternal nutrition and microbiome research;
  • Candidates having publications in international peer-reviewed journals and abstracts presented at international conferences will be given preference.

Location: Dhaka

Contract Type and duration:

  • CSA basis for 11 months with a possibility of extension subject to availability of fund

Salary & benefits:

  • 83,030/- (consolidated) per month inclusive of house rent and conveyance allowances.
  • Festival bonus, income tax paid by icddr,b and subsidized canteen. Transport and daycare facilities are subject to space availability.
