The primary objective of the project which is under Programme for Emerging Infection is to track the causes of under-5 mortality and stillbirths at selected population sites in Bangladesh. In addition, the project will estimate overall and cause-specific mortality rates in order to generate and share knowledge that improves understanding and prevention of under-5 child mortality.
Position Description:
The Study Physician will report to the Medical Officer and will be mainly responsible for the following duties and responsibilities:
- Work with Investigators on proposals and protocols development;
- Draft sections of protocols relating to research (e.g. questionnaire, guidelines);
- Review protocol for adherence to qualitative/quantitative research principles and make appropriate suggestions in order to support the creation of sound proposals and protocols with funding potential;
- Review and assemble data to generate case packets to review by the expert panel to determine the cause of death of under 5 years children in a defined population;
- Present case packets to the expert panel and communicate with field and other team members accordingly;
- Assist to prepare results and facilitate the result-sharing session with the deceased’s family;
- Maintain a database of the Determination of Cause of Death results and family follow-ups;
- Maintain data quality in the REDCap database;
- Support research material development, train new field staff on delivery of CHAMPS intervention, conduct and supervise CHAMPS sessions;
- Address questions made by supervisors, investigators and donors, and finalize reports;
- Prepare and share weekly and monthly reports and work plans as per deliverables;
- Review information on data captured and develop possible manuscript ideas under the guidance of Principal Investigator, Co-investigators, Senior Research Investigator, and Research Investigator;
- Perform analysis based on direction from supervisor;
- Create a report with findings and share with supervisor;
- Write sections of the manuscript under supportive guidance of supervisor;
- Guide team members on completion of tasks, reports, and documents (e.g. research methods);
- Provide on-the-job training to junior staff such as data entry in online platform (REDCap)
- Provide feedback on team members’ performance to the supervisor in order to develop an efficient team.
Required qualification and experience:
- MBBS degree from a Medical College recognized by the Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council with completion of one-year internship training;
- Candidates with MPH will get preference.
- Experiences on developing abstract by using project data and present in scientific seminar will also get preference.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in the field of Determination of Cause of Death activities;
- Training on the International Classification of Cause of Death ( ICD-11) coding system will be preferable.

Contract Type and duration:
- Short-Term Contractual Service Agreement; duration will be 11 months with a possibility of extension subject to availability of funds and performance.
Salary & benefits:
- Tk. 87,180.00/-(consolidated) per month inclusive of house rent and conveyance allowances.
