Context

Children today grow up surrounded by artificial intelligence (AI), which influences their education, play, and online interactions. While AI offers creativity and innovation, it also presents significant risks, as many systems are not designed for children. Generative AI, capable of producing text, images, and audio, amplifies concerns about misinformation, biases, and exposure to inappropriate content, as well as undermining critical thinking and communication skills. However, these challenges also present opportunities to enhance children’s digital literacy and critical thinking. With proper guidance, children can learn to use AI responsibly, understanding its workings and limitations, and become empowered, informed citizens in an AI-driven world. The project “AI Literacy for Children: New Skills for a Changing World”, aims to contribute to building the skills of children, parents and other caregivers to safely and consciously navigate the challenges and reap the benefits brought by the most recent developments in AI. With the support of the Walt Disney Company, UNICRI aims to provide children and parents with an initial grounding in the basics of generative AI. For that, our centre is developing a short video for children on how to responsibly interact with generative AI and a factsheet for parents and caregivers on how to guide children to use this technology responsibly.

Task Description

The goal of this task is to support the development of a short video for children on AI literacy, explaining its benefits and limitations. Besides adverting on the risks of generative AI, we want to show with this video, the potential of AI to support humans in all types of tasks. Considering the impressive developments in video-generator tools, the plan would be to use some clips generated by AI combined with clips generated by a video designer/editor to show the power of co-creation. In this sense, the goal of this task is to develop short videos that connect AI-generated clips on the topic “What is AI?”. The style of the human-generated parts is completely flexible, with 2D or 3D drawings as possibilities. The script is almost fully developed but flexible to suggestions and modifications. We are looking for artists and graphic designers, who would like to collaborate in this innovative approach of having humans collaborate with AI to make a powerful short video.
