Duties and Responsibilities
Created in December 1999, the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) is the designated focal point in the United Nations system for the coordination of efforts to reduce disasters and to ensure synergies among the disaster reduction activities of the United Nations and regional organizations and activities in both developed and less developed countries. Led by the United Nations Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Disaster Risk Reduction (SRSG/ASG), UNDRR has over 140 staff located in its headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland, and in regional offices. UNDRR guides, monitors, analyses, and reports on progress in the implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030. It supports regional and national implementation of the Framework and catalyzes action and increases global awareness to reduce disaster risk working with UN Member States and a broad range of partners and stakeholders, including civil society, the private sector, parliamentarians and the science and technology community. The United Nations Regional Office for Europe and Central Asia (ROECA) supports Member States in 55 countries of the region for implementing the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030. The Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) 2015-2030 recognizes the Global and Regional Platforms for Disaster Risk Reduction as key mediums for its implementation, building on the pivotal role that they have played in supporting the implementation of the Hyogo Framework for Action. Regional Platforms for Disaster Risk Reduction are multi-stakeholder forums that are dynamic forums for policymakers, partners, experts, and practitioners to announce initiatives, launch products, share information, promote campaigns and actions, monitor progress, and provide evidence about disaster risk reduction. The outcomes of Regional Platform are included in the United Nations Secretary General’s report to the General Assembly, in the deliberations at the High-Level Political Forum in New York and at the Global Platform on Disaster Risk Reduction in 2025. The consultant will report to the Associate Programme Management Officer in charge of the Europe and Central Asia Regional Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction. The consultant will provide adequate support to UNDRR ROECA Office in organization of the Platform and provide support to the Members States, partners, and stakeholders towards their participation in a contribution to the Platform. Main responsibilities include: • Support logistic organization processes of the Regional Platform Marketplace. • Support partners in organization of the side events during the prep day on 06 November 2024 • Liaise and serve as a focal point for the communication with the virtual conferencing platform (service provider); • Manage the website and registration process. • Work on correspondence (invitation letters, thank you letters, etc.)
