Support Worker

Location: North Middlesex University Hospital, London N18 1QX

Hours: 35 per week

Contract type: Fixed Term until 31st March 2024

Salary: £19,838 per annum based on 35 hours per week plus ILW of £3,344 if applicable

Do you love helping people in need? Are you looking for a rewarding role that could kick start your career in the health and social sector?

If you are passionate and eager with great people skills, you could make a real difference to someone’s life.

No professional experience? No problem!

If you can make someone feel cared for and at ease then you’d be a perfect fit as a Support Worker in our Health and Local Crisis Response team.

You will be a friendly face to someone who may be struggling to do things for themselves due to age, illness, or vulnerability. You’ll allow them to enjoy healthier, more fulfilling lives. It’s not just a job, but an amazing way to give back to society.

Based out of North Middlesex University Hospital, you will provide assistance to patients to enable them to be discharged in a safe and timely manner. You will undertake non-medical tasks and make a patient’s stay as relaxed as possible. This will free up the medical staff to be able to focus on their clinical role.

A day in the life of a Service Support Worker will involve:

  • Providing practical and emotional help to patients being discharged from hospital.
  • Providing reactive, focused, and flexible support to adults following a hospital stay to enable early discharge.
  • Responding to referrals from Clinicians and Community Health Professionals

You may be required to escort patients home occasionally or pick up urgent shopping.

To be a successful Service Support Worker:

  • Have you a good knowledge of services provided by the NHS and Social Care?
  • Are you thoughtful, caring and patient?
  • Are you professional? Can you deal with queries in a tactful and discreet manner?

There is no personal care or administration of medication for this role.

Closing date for your application is Sunday 29th October 2023.

In return for your dedication and expertise, you’ll get:

  • Holidays: 36 days annual leave (including bank holidays) + option to buy 5 extra days.
  • Pension scheme: Up to 6% contributory pension.
  • Flexible working: We do our best to accommodate your preferred work style.
  • Learning & Development: Wide range of career opportunities + comprehensive learning.
  • Discounts: Access to Blue Light Discount Card and employee benefits platform.
  • Wellbeing Assistance: Access to mental health and wellbeing assistance.
  • Team Working: Champion our mission in a collaborative team.
  • Cycle2Work: Lease a bicycle through the scheme.
  • Season ticket loan: Interest-free loan for commuting expenses.

We are proud to participate in the disability confident scheme for roles based in the UK. During the application process, you will be asked if you wish to apply under the scheme.

At The British Red Cross, we pride ourselves on our diverse workforce, and ensuring we have an inclusive environment for all our staff and volunteers. We remain dedicated to ensuring our teams can bring their true selves to work without risk or fear of discrimination. We do this through regular data reporting, and the assistance of our internal Race and Equality Network (REEN), LGBT+ Network, our Disability and Wellness Network (DAWN), Gender Network, Carers Network and Youth Network.
