Org. Setting and Reporting

The United Nations Secretary-General is responsible for the investment of the assets of the United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund (UNJSPF). The Secretary-General has delegated this responsibility to the Representative of the Secretary-General for the investment of the assets of the UNJSPF (RSG). The RSG heads the Office of Investment Management (OIM), which manages approximately $80+ billion multi-asset class, global investment portfolio, about 80% of which is actively managed in-house. Asset classes under management comprise global equities, fixed income, foreign exchange, private equity, real estate, infrastructure, timber and commodities. This internship position is located in the Sustainable Investment Team within the Office of Investment Management of the United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund. The incumbent reports to the Team Lead and is expected to work in person at OIM’s office in New York.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities: With appropriate guidance, the intern will be responsible for the following tasks:

• Support the team with the development and improvement of OIM’s carbon footprint across multiple asset classes in public and private markets
• Support the team with the assessment of transitioning companies, including improvement of the methodology and process
• Conduct a review of quarterly equity rebalancing methodology and processes
• Automation of existing reporting tools for public and private markets
• Other reporting tasks such as climate/green/SDG revenue reporting

Education

To qualify for the United Nations Internship Programme, applicants must meet the following conditions:
(a) Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
OR,
(b) Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent).

Applicants who have graduated as defined in (a) or (b) above, if selected, must commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation.

Work Experience

No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship.

Knowledge of or experience with common programming tools (Python for instance) is desirable.

Knowledge of or experience with Visualization tools (PowerBI for instance) is desirable.

Knowledge of or experience with manipulating datasets is desirable.

Knowledge of key climate frameworks and standards, including CDP, TCFD, CA100, PCAF and SBTI is desirable.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the UN Secretariat. For this position, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.

• The minimum duration of an internship assignment is two (2) months, and the maximum duration is six (6) months. Internships can be full time or part time.

• There should be no expectation of employment within the UN after an internship. Interns shall not be eligible to apply for, or be appointed to, positions at the professional level and above carrying international recruitment status in the Secretariat for a period of six months following the end of their internship.
• UN interns can work from a remote location or in person in New York. In order to work in New York, Interns must have a valid US visa which allows them to take up employment.
