The Syndicated Loans and Debt Mobilization Department (“CSL”) is tasked with raising external funds for IFC clients through the B Loan program, Parallel Loans, Credit Insurance Policies (“CIP”), the Managed Co-Lending Portfolio Program (“MCPP”), and Debt Securities Syndication (“DSS”). Our syndications partners are international and local commercial banks, Development Finance Institutions (“DFI”), funds and institutional investors. The Department is responsible for developing innovative products and solutions to attract private capital into emerging markets. It is further responsible for mobilizing third-party capital through the suite of syndication products as well as attracting non-traditional syndications partners to support the growth of IFC’s loan business. The Department is also responsible for the ongoing syndicated loan portfolio management engagements with third-party investors.
CSL is seeking a Syndication Analyst to join Singapore’s regional Syndications Asia team. The Analyst will report to the Head of Syndications for the region.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Market Intelligence:
• Conduct industry and bank market research and pricing data analysis, including secondary market pricing.
• Follow international lending and credit insurance markets as well as banking activities to understand and anticipate global and/or regional trends.
• Prepare regular syndicated market updates and pricing reports for the various regional markets.
Syndications:
• Review company, economic and financial information for new transactions. Prepare information memoranda, executive summaries and other reports for the bank market in conjunction with the relevant Investment Department.
• On assigned projects, support Officers in conducting deal specific market soundings and developing lists of prospective banks for individual syndications
• Distribute marketing information to prospective B Loan participants, Parallel Lenders and Insurers through web-based platforms
• On assigned projects, support Officers in the syndication of IFC B Loans to financial institutions, Parallel loans to DFls and local banks, MCPP loans to MCPP investors, insurers in the use of Unfunded Risk Participations & Credit Insurance Policies and sell participation in IFC A Loans in the secondary market.
• On MCPP projects, prepare MCPP teasers, MCPP Commitment Summaries and periodic MCPP portfolio updates
Syndicated Portfolio Management:
• Prepare and coordinate with the Syndications Global Portfolio team to distribution of portfolio documents to existing B loan participants, parallel lenders, insurers and MCPP investors.
• On a selective basis, independently manage assigned portfolio deals.
• Providing high-quality service to B Loan participants/parallel lenders/insurers/MCPP investors on ongoing project work (information transmission on key developments, responding to inquiries, restructurings).
• Coordinating syndicated partners processing and approval of waivers and amendments.
• Ensuring that managed deal-specific contractual responsibilities with B Loan participants/parallel lenders/insurers/MCPP investors are being met.
• Prepare Semi-Annual Portfolio Reviews of Business Promotion & Relationship Management.
• Prepare power point presentations and other information for internal and external marketing.
• Support Officers in developing and maintaining relationships with international and regional commercial banks, other prospective B Loan Participants, DFIs, insurance companies and institutional investors.
Selection Criteria
• Bachelor’s or master’s in finance or business with a strong component of finance and accounting coursework
• At least two to four years of relevant work experience, preferably with a leading international bank or similar financial institution in emerging markets, or an equivalent combination of a master’s degree in a relevant subject
• Understanding of the international commercial bank market and multiple debt instruments.
• Preferably experience with loan documentation and credit issues.
• Experience in using available research tools including Dealogic – Loan Analytics, Bloomberg and market publications and bookrunning platforms such as DebtDomain, lntralinks or Syndtrak.
• Proactive, resourceful, flexible and self-motivated.
• Strong team player with a demonstrated capacity for hard work.
• Able to manage multiple tasks concurrently, prioritize effectively and adhere to deadlines while always paying attention to details.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English. A good command of one or more regional languages would be a major advantage.
• Clear, accurate articulation of issues, problems and solutions.
• Use of tact, diplomacy and good interpersonal skills in internal and external communications.
