Result of Service
• Provide substantive and general administrative assistance in support of the Cluster 2, Josour related project(s) and activities; • Provide substantive inputs and coordinate preparations for the regional/national workshops with youth and potential partners; • Prepare informational/outreach material on the various activities of the Josour project; • Contribute to the development of the partners map in Egypt and other Arab countries; • Contribute to the implementation of the project on Josour Initiative; • Perform other duties as assigned.

Duties and Responsibilities
Background: In the 2020 report titled “Inequality in the Arab Region: A Ticking Time Bomb” by ESCWA, it was emphasized that youth unemployment is a significant factor contributing to rising inequality in the Arab region, surpassing global rates with a figure of 26 percent in 2021, in contrast to the worldwide average of 12 percent. Recognizing the pressing issue of inequality and its implications for social and political stability, the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) convened the “Arab Forum for Equality” in Amman, Jordan, on 30-31 May 2022. The focus of the 2022 Arab Forum for Equality was on empowering youth as a mean to address this fagrant face of inequality in the region, culminating in the launch of the “Josour” initiative. The “Josour” initiative has garnered the participation of thirty-six members from various sectors including private companies, unions, and universities in the Arab region since its establishment. The initiative anticipates further expansion through ongoing discussions with potential partners. ESCWA, as the Secretariat of the initiative, is currently implementing a project supported by the Sawiris Foundation for Social Development titled “Josour Initiative: To a Better Future for Youth in the Arab Region.” This project aims to leverage ESCWA’s developed tools to provide youth with enhanced access to opportunities. Accordingly, the project requires the services of an individual contractor/administrative assistant to support the implementation of its activities. The position is located in ESCWA’s Cluster 2 on Gender Justice, Population and Inclusive Development. Specifically, the individual contractor will provide technical and non-technical support to the XB project on Josour Initiative “To a Better Future for Youth in the Arab Region”. Duties and Responsibilities: • Support the implementation of the activities related to the Josour initiative; • Systematically follow through, retrieve, and compile information on the ongoing similar initiatives in the Arab region as well as at the global level; • Support the team in managing Josour platform and keep track of the partners input and announcements (opportunities, events, etc.); • Support the administrative preparations for the 4th Arab Forum for Equality (June 2025); • Support the development of potential partners mapping in Egypt, Jordan and other Arab countries; • Assist in the preparation of agendas, info notes, presentations, and background substantive material related to Josour meetings and activities; • Coordinate with partners and relevant stakeholders on issues related to the Josour’s national chapters; • Translate documents from English to Arabic and vice versa upon request • Undertake other tasks as needed.
Qualifications/special skills
A bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or a related field is required. All candidates must submit a copy of the required educational degree. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed. 8 years of progressively responsible experience in general office support, and administrative support or related field is required. Previous work experience within the United Nations system or similar international organization is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat; and Arabic is a working language of ESCWA. For this position, fluency in English and Arabic is required. Note: “Fluency” equals a rating of ‘fluent’ in all four areas (speak, read, write, and understand) and “Knowledge of” equals a rating of ‘confident’ in two of the four areas.
