Job Description
Are you passionate about making communities safer for women and their children? As our Team Leader for our Domestic and Family Violence programs in Mount Isa we can offer you an opportunity to work across regional and remote sites (including Aboriginal communities in the Gulf) as part of an integrated response to DFV. It’s challenging work, and we’re looking for an experienced leader, committed to staff development and wellbeing, as well as someone who is genuinely interested in collaboration.

Are you keen for an outback adventure with weekends spent camping, fishing, 4 wheel driving or maybe heading out to restaurants and movies, or maybe participating in a host of sporting activities including golf would be more appealing. The community of Mt Isa has all this and more – we would love the opportunity to show you the beauty of outback Queensland.

54 reasons is Australia’s leading child rights organisation – no ordinary not-for-profit.

Proudly part of the Save the Children Australia Group and global movement, we’re here to make sure that everyone understands their rights. So that children and young people have their rights met and thrive, in all their diversity.

We champion the children, young people and families we work with. We are inspired by the curiosity and creativity of children and motivated by the love of those who care for them.

With the child’s voice at the centre, we provide quality services to children and their caregivers, advocating with them so that children develop, learn, and are connected, safe and confident. Our people are proudly local, reflective of the communities we serve – in every state and territory, and across regions, remote areas and capital cities.

Where you come in:

In this full-time, maximum term position based in Mount Isa you’ll inspire a dedicated team to accomplish ambitious goals for the Domestic/Family Violence Specialist Service including the Mount Isa After Hours (MIAH) response team and the Mt Isa HRT (High Risk Team). As a leader, you’ll contribute to strategies that enhance safety and reduce future risk of experiences of violence through the team’s counselling and case management support for aggrieved adults, children and young people. Due to the after-hours nature of the MIAH response, you may occasionally be required to work 8pm to midnight weekdays and weekends to provide support and backfill to the MIAH roster as required. You’ll be part of our Queensland Programs team and report to the Regional Manager.

You will make an impact by:

  • Leading, developing and motivating a dedicated and driven team
  • Providing formal professional supervision (minimum monthly)
  • Supporting and monitoring the programs to ensure we meet targets
  • Building relationships with the local community
  • Actively assisting staff to develop case plans, safety plans and providing feedback regularly
  • Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders

Does this sound like you?

You’re an enthusiastic and committed leader who understands that children’s right to safety, survival, development and participation is core to the way we work. You’re active, creative and flexible in your approach to working with families and children, using a trauma-informed, strengths-based and culturally sensitive framework within communities working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. You have the ability to develop and maintain partnerships with external organisations at all levels, and you can supervise, coach and mentor others with an empathetic approach.

This role requires:

  • Experience in conducting safety and risk assessments for DFV and sexual violence
  • Proven leadership skills and the ability to build a cohesive and high performing team
  • Commitment to culturally safe work practices and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities
  • Ability to develop, implement, monitor and evaluate activities
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and de-escalate complex scenarios
  • Current valid driver’s licence
