Wars and armed conflicts come to an end; however, the remnants of war continue to impact millions of people for decades to follow. Together with national authorities and other stakeholders, we are working to resolve problems faced by local communities caused by Explosive Ordnance (EO). Requirements:
- IMAS EOD level 2 or equivalent military qualification, with at least 2 years of operational mine action experience from military, NGO or commercial sector.
- Experience of implementation of land release approach in mine clearance context is required.
- Experience of leading, motivating and managing a diverse team of people.
- Experience of conducting formal or informal training and the transfer of appropriate skills to others.
- Good knowledge of IMAS and the land release principles.
- Experience in utilizing full “HMA toolbox” approach, including deployment of manual, Mine Detection Dog and Mech assets is an advantage.
- Good numeracy and IT skills.
- Category B driving license.
- Excellent written and spoken English is a requirement while knowledge of Ukrainian/Russian language is desirable.
As a person, you have strong people leadership skills and are great at communicating. This role will require good planning skills and structure as well as having a strong resilience to stressful circumstances.
Responsibilities:
- Fully responsible for the day-to-day management of assigned mine action operations including land release (NTS, TS, mine clearance and BAC).
- Assist and support the STFMs in planning and development and in ensuring an overall safe execution of all NPA technical activities within the country of operation.
- Contribute to methodology development.
- Assist the OM / STFMs in assessing gaps in the operational capacity of both National operational staff.
- Actively contributing to the development and implementation of the capacity development plan for national operational staff ensuring their professional growth and development.
- Contributing to the achievement of donor set targets, whilst ensuring the quality management of mine action operations (including training) in accordance with SOPs, NMAS and IMAS.
- Assist in the development and update of operational SOPs and maintain operational accreditation.
- Provide operational reports including but not limited to progress reports, NPA Monthly report, NTS and hazard reports, completion, and suspension report, to both NPA’s reporting system and the National Authority through IMSMA.
- Represent the OM/STFMs if/when required.
- Represent NPA at relevant stakeholder meetings and events when required.
- Liaise with national and local authorities for operational, logistic and administrative purposes as required.
