Contract Information

The type of contract will be fixed term for 1 year with the possibility of further extension subject to satisfactory performance and availability of project funds

Salary Information

US$ 64,121 net per annum, plus post adjustment (currently US$ 47,513). Salary is free of income tax in the United Kingdom

Purpose

Under the direct supervision of the Project Manager of the GHG Project and overall supervision of the Head, Projects Implementation, in the Department of Partnerships and Projects (DPP) the incumbent will provide technical guidance and advisory services and undertake support of project management responsibilities related to the implementation of the projectThis Vacancy Notice supports the establishment of the IMO Projects Roster. The Roster will be a list of pre-vetted, qualified candidates, for the purpose of fast-tracking recruitment processes as positions become available. After a rigorous selection process, successful candidates will be placed in the respective Roster for a period of 24 months. While placement on the Roster does not guarantee a position, candidates placed on the Roster will be matched when a relevant position becomes available and be invited to a final interview

Duties and Responsibilities

Support the Project Manager in coordinating project deliverables and provide technical support on GHG issues to the wider project team (including MTCCs). Monitor project deliverables in specific technical areas, organize respective meetings and report back to the Project Manager. Provide in-person technical support to pilot activities in the respective MTCC regions/MTCCs Support project implementation throughout with technical expertise in GHG matters, including providing technical knowledge on alternative fuels, energy efficiency operational measures and key IMO regulations and providing input to technical reports, publications; Provide technical assistance to the projects implementing partners (MTCCs) to establish and undertake technically solid GHG emissions reduction related technology demonstration pilots; Coordinate training activities and provide technical support to learning events related to pilot projects, assist in the development of training material for Project related activities;Establish and maintain an information base, synthesizing data received from MTCCs related to their Pilot Project activities;Follow and summarize discussions in relevant IMO Committees and Sub- committees such as MEPC, ISWG and meetings of other relevant UN entities (UNFCCC) and share related summaries with project team and MTCCs;Participate as a speaker at relevant conferences, exhibitions and other outreach activities representing the Project;Undertake any other duties as required for the effective management of the Project or the Department

Required Competencies

Experience

Minimum of five years of progressively responsible professional experience in project or programme management related to maritime decarbonization, including execution of technical projects in developing countries is required

Education

An advanced university degree in environmental or maritime engineering, civil engineering, marine science, maritime law/maritime affairs, international relations or related field is essential

Language Skills

Proficiency in English, both written and oral, is required. Working knowledge and ability to understand complex technical issues in other official languages of the United Nations will be an asset

Others

Knowledge of the work of IMO and particularly of MARPOL Annex VI and the IMO GHG Strategy, as well as related implementation needs and challenges is essential.Familiarity with the operational aspects of domestic vessels (under 5,000 GT) and / or port facilities that service such vessels is essential. Experience of working in the maritime sector in developing countries, especially in areas related to energy efficiency, will be an asset
