Peace and Security Cluster
The UNOPS Peace and Security Cluster (PSC) is a principal service provider in the field of mine action with the United Nations Mine Action Service (UNMAS), UNDP, UNICEF, Governments of mine-affected countries and other mine action partners. It is led by the Director, who has overall authority and accountability for the performance PSC on behalf of its clients. The Director is responsible for administering and providing oversight of the day-to-day management of the Project Field offices, both according to the client requirements and in line with UNOPS rules and regulations.
Provision of Geospatial and Analytical Support Services for UN Hurricane Beryl Reconstruction Support in Grenada, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines
The UNOPS Peace and Security Cluster (PSC) is supporting the emergency response and reconstruction efforts following Hurricane Beryl in Grenada, Saint Vincent, and the Grenadines through the provision of geospatial and analytical support services. This project aims to enhance the operational efficiency of UN emergency response teams by leveraging advanced GIS, remote sensing, and data analytics to assess damage, quantify debris, and inform recovery planning.
The project is led by the Information Management and Analytics Team (IMAT) within PSC, which specializes in using high-resolution satellite imagery, AI-driven geospatial analysis, and 3D modeling to provide critical insights for decision-making in post-disaster environments. These analytical outputs will help UN agencies, national authorities, and humanitarian actors prioritize response efforts and allocate resources effectively.
Key Project Components:
A key component of this initiative is the development of a digital tool to present key findings, outputs, and analysis in an accessible and interactive format. The tool will enhance data-driven decision-making by integrating geospatial datasets, 3D models, and analytical reports into a unified interface. This internship role will support the design, development, and user adoption of this tool, ensuring that the outputs of the project are effectively communicated and leveraged for impact.
Under the direct supervision of the Information Management and Analytics Advisor (ISC-11), the intern will support the design and development of a digital tool to present key findings, outputs, and analysis from PSC’s geospatial and analytical support services for emergency response and reconstruction efforts. This tool will facilitate data visualization, improve accessibility, and enhance engagement with stakeholders, including UN agencies, government partners, and humanitarian actors.
At the end of this internship, the successful candidate will have gained experience in:
