Job Profile

 

Provide technical leadership to Climate Smart Agriculture Practices component under the Economic and Agriculture Development Technical Programme (EAD-TP) and oversee the implementation of technically sound Climate Smart Agriculture programme at two levels, viz. farming as a livelihood and agribusiness entrepreneurs in relevant APs to ensure achieving World Vision Lanka’s (WVL) Sectoral Objectives in line with National, Regional and International strategies and priorities.

 

Major Responsibilities

 

  • Implement the Climate Smart Agriculture Practices (CSAP) in the field based on learning evidences aligned to regional and global strategies, global sector priorities, government strategies/ policies and relevant cross-sectoral considerations across different Area Programme.
  • Identify the implementation resource gaps in different APs related to CSAP components and address effectively.
  • Conduct regular on-farm technical visits to the selected lead farms and provide required technical support (Pest, disease, nutrient, Soil, water, weather information) with the support of the CSAP Coordinators.
  • Conduct Landscape studies, Scenario assessments and recommend programmatic changes & improvement for better output/results.
  • Develop CSA awareness training tool to create awareness among newly selected farmers and CSA Coordinators on climate smart agricultural practices.
  • Assess the capacities of the newly selected CSAP farmers in Aps together with the CSA Coordinators and identify the market potential value chains and their gaps in those value chains to develop in different Aps.
  • Positioning and branding WVL CSA component in the relevant sectors within Provincial and District partnerships.
  • Design and conduct awareness training for selected farmers and CSA Coordinators on CSA practices using the training guidance developed.
  • Keep the climate smart agriculture and climate adaptation/mitigation knowledge up to date on relevant national and provincial policies and trends of the sector.

 

Required qualifications, experience & competencies

 

  • At least 5 years of experience in development sector with experience on agriculture and livelihood development. Out of the 5 years of experience required, minimum of 3 years of experience in the development sector.
  • A university degree in agriculture, natural resource management, environmental science or related field.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective work relationships with other agencies/organizations, donors, government counterparts and other NGOs/ INGOs.
  • Ability conduct capacity building trainings of farmers, development staff, on climate smart agriculture, agro-ecology, value chain development, enterprise development, market development.
  • Good knowledge in English, and Sinhala (knowledge in Tamil is preferred). Excellent writing skill is essential.
