Coding and analysis of qualitative data on the driver of food choice in Benin

 

Background

The International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) implemented a qualitative study to understand the drivers of food choice among women, men, and adolescents in Benin, with a particular focus on fruit and vegetables. The study was conducted in December 2022. Data were collected in four areas using in-depth interviews, focus group discussions, and “shopalongs”.

Activities

The collaborator will conduct transcript coding and thematic analysis of the qualitative data. Specifically, the collaborator will:

  • Code transcripts using qualitative software and develop the codebook.
  • Conduct content and thematic analysis and narrative review of codes.
  • Draft a slide deck with results from the thematic analysis.

Location

All work will be done remotely.

Level of effort

The level of effort for this activity is 25 days.

Required qualifications

  • Master’s degree in social science, nutrition, public health, international development, public policy, economics, or other closely related field
  • Demonstrated experience with coding in Nvivo
  • Demonstrated written and spoken proficiency in French
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task, consistently meet deadlines and manage time well
  • Demonstrated professional level of attention to detail and accuracy of work
