The consultant will contribute to enhancing TrainForTrade’s implementation of activities and to strengthen different means of activities and communication to reach out to more stakeholders and partners involved in ports, e-commerce and digital economy related activities.
Duties and Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Chief of the Human Resource Development (HRD) Section/TrainForTrade and the direct supervision of the Programme Management Officer, the incumbent will perform tasks related to the above-mentioned three major areas: 1 Regarding the Port Management Programme, the consultant will: 1.1 Prepare and organize activities for in field and online within the English and French speaking networks, participating in the thesis evaluation, notably in Gabon, Nigeria, Senegal and Togo and draft final report of activities. 1.2 Conduct research related to port and maritime activities and participate as a jury member in the evaluation of the final thesis in Gabon, Nigeria, Senegal and Togo. 1.3 Contribute to the setup and the delivery the of the Training of Trainers (TOT) in Cork, Ireland (19-24 April) and Nantes, France (4-14 June) by liaising with counterparts and port authorities for the organisation of the events; preparing agendas; checking accessibility to all training package; following up on trainees’ participation in forums, tests and discussions; liaising with experts and focal points; uploading updated training material to the distance learning platform and ensuring smooth development of the course online and at the in person workshops. 1.4 Participate in meetings with potential new port partners, beneficiaries and other relevant stakeholders. 1.5 Liaise with local instructors and focal points to organise the agendas and coordinate the training activities in Djibouti, Ghana, Namibia, Nigeria, the Philippines, Tanzania, Tunisia, and draft final report of activities. 2 Concerning the activities linked to Development Account 14 and the “Blended learning strategy to boost the digital economy in SIDS” in English the consultant will: 2.1 Contribute to the development of the course on digital trade and statistics by participating in DACUM sessions, meetings with the consultant and the UNCTAD experts to develop the course material in order to design the skeleton of the course. 2.2 Contribute to the organization of the online course by liaising with stakeholders and experts ensuring the material is accurate, understandable and prepared in time. 2.3 Explore potential SIDS host locations for the final closing hybrid event. 2.4 Draft final report. 3 Regarding the delivery of the distance learning course on Statistics on International Merchandise Trade in 2024 (in English and French), the consultant will: 3.1 Contribute to the setup of the new delivery of the course by preparing the distance learning platform with updated training material, moderating the technical forum and verifying accessibility to all training package. Prepare agenda and coordinate with experts and meeting participants registration to participate in the course and for the webinars. 3.2 Contribute to ensuring the smooth running of the course, send weekly messages to participants, oversee the fora. 3.3 Coordinate with experts and participants the agenda for the three final webinars. Co-moderate the final webinars in English and French (7-8 May) 3.4 Draft final report 4. Regarding the Global Supply Chain Forum, the consultant will: 4.1 Prepare the material for the Parallel Sessions on the Port Endeavor Game (B4, 22 May) and Efficient and Competitive Port Management (B6, 23 May). 4.2 Coordinating with stakeholders and guest speakers participating in the Forum. 4.3 Prepare the agenda and discussion materials for the coordination meeting of the Port Management Programme French-speaking network to be hosted in situ on 20 May.
Qualifications/special skills
The consultant will hold a Bachelor of Science degree in International Business, economics, public policy or related field. Certification: Basic Safety training for vessels. At least 5 years of working experience in maritime sector working with port authorities, private entities and project management related to shipping. Experience in planning and organizing activities and events. Working experience with SIDS, Africa and Asian countries is an advantage. Experience with TrainForTrade’s methodology is an advantage.
