Are you an experienced in running training programmes and developing partnerships with civil society groups? This could be your chance to use your skills to support the Security Lab in Amnesty International to help protect civil space from unlawful surveillance and other digital threats.

JOB PURPOSE

Working as part of the Amnesty Tech’s Security Lab, the Training and Community Engagement Lead will coordinate engagement with technologists, human rights activists, and other members of civil society

The postholder will join at a time of expansion for the Security Lab as it grows to face the increased challenges presented by surveillance technologies to the work of human rights defenders around the world. This is an exciting time to be joining a growing team that has a track record of high impact research and campaigning.

The location for this post is London but we will consider options to based candidates in other locations where there is an Amnesty International Secretariat office.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Outreach to civil society groups where potential digital security threats are identified and building strong relationships with individuals/civil society groups where further digital forensics investigations are launched.
  • Develop strong relationships with key civil society groups working on digital security to help identify emerging surveillance threats, and to communicate these to colleagues in the DST; and to disseminate new research findings and tools from the DST to civil society partners.
  • Manage the curriculum for a training programme for a Fellowship programme, and other training activities organised by the Security Lab, including working with Technologists to develop and update a curriculum.
  • Oversee the work of the Fellows, including (1) creating and checking in on individual work plans, (2) communicating progress on workplans to relevant internal and external stakeholders, (3) completing progress reports as per agreed schedule, and (4) monitoring and evaluating progress against the objectives of the Fellowship.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Knowledge of the issues of targeted surveillance and its impact on human rights
  • Experience in developing, managing and delivering training programmes.
  • Experience in creating and managing partnerships between civil society organisations.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, concisely and diplomatically in English, both orally and in writing; other languages are an asset.
