Org. Setting and Reporting

This position is located in the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) with duty station in Juba, in the Medical Section and under the Service Delivery Pillar of the Mission Support Division. The incumbent will report to the Medical Officer (Infections Diseases and Public Health). Juba is classified in the “E” category and as a non-family duty station.

Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Infectious Diseases and Public Health Unit (IDPHU) Office Juba Team Leader, the Training Assistant will be responsible for supporting the following duties:

• Act as the main focal point of contact for all training related enquiries, including answering the telephone and beneficiaries’ concerns.
• Assist in planning, implementing and evaluation of training courses (i.e., induction, Health Promotion Campaigns, Health Promoters Peer Educators Training, HIV&AIDS Peer Education, Change Agents, Counsellors, and PEP Custodians) targeting UN personnel including in uniforms.
• Contributes to the design, organization and delivery of training and development programmes for the enhancement of competencies and upgrading of staff technical skills and to meet mandate implementation.
• Contributes to the design of mission-readiness and orientation programmes which encompass a range of activities including, inter alia, technical, and substantive training, induction training, leadership and management.
• Contributes to the design of specific training programmes to meet unique mission operational requirements and staff development needs.
• Co-coordinates and organizes specialized training programmes with the various areas of civilian staff – that meet cross-cutting training needs such as HIV/AIDS awareness, health campaign, etc as applicable.
• Contributes to the development of systems and methods for disseminating information to mission personnel on training and staff development opportunities, including distance-learning, self-study, and other sources of learning.
• Collects and maintains statistical data on training activities and responds to queries and requests for information on training programmes.
• Contributes to the preparation and monitoring of budgetary allocations through regular reviews.
• Drafts routine and ad hoc outputs and provide effective monitoring reports and data.
• Undertake any additional, non-routine or amended duties appropriate to the post, as may be required by the trainer.
• Map out All trainings in states and compile them in a dashboard.
• Maintain updated curriculum database and training records.
• Submit weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual report to the IDPHU officer.
• Assist in drafting unit weekly and monthly report.
• Performs any other duties, as assigned.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent is required.

Work Experience

A minimum of five (05) years of progressively responsible experience in the field of training organization and support, design, delivery and evaluation of training courses or related areas such as assessing training needs and planning training programmes is required. The minimum years of relevant experience is reduced to 3 for candidates who possess a first-level university degree or higher.

At least two (2) years of experience in the area of adult learning, training or staff development is desirable.

Experience within the United Nations Common System or comparable international organization is desirable.

Experience using a Learning Management System, Applications & Products (SAP/UMOJA), PeopleSoft, or any similar Enterprise Resource Planning System (ERP) is desirable.

Experience working in a multicultural and/or international work environment is desirable.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in English (both oral and written) is required.

Assessment

Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by a competency-based interview.
