This position is located within the Financial Resources Management Service (FRMS), Division of Administration, United Nations Office at Geneva. The work is part of a dedicated team to provide payments and treasury services. The incumbent will report to the Senior bank investigator.
Responsibilities
– Captures and initiates bank investigations: reviews email messages and phone calls (and maintains bank investigations mailbox) emanating from internal clients (served business areas), such as complaints of non-receipt of funds, or delayed fund transfers; bank inquiries (from house bank accounts served by UNOG treasury); liaises with banks to initiate investigations for bank transactions (i.e. outgoing and incoming funds such as unable to be applied, non-receipt of funds, recall of funds); – Organizes and maintains shared electronic log for bank investigations (value date, amount, beneficiary, case assigned by bank, reason, outgoing-incoming messaging, business area, house bank, cashier, fees, details of payment): logs inquiries and logs returns; – Researches captured outgoing payments and incoming funds: obtains payment details, finds out how payment was disbursed/changed, identifies the reason of payment non-delivery, identifies bank chains for incoming funds, and discovers return reasons; – Carries out bank investigation steps: initiates return of erroneously received funds for treasurer’s approval; via secured B2B communication channels, inquires banks for details, provides additionally requested details for bank sanctions departments (beneficiary date of birth, place of birth, place of residence, address, nationality, passport, personal ID, purpose of payment, follows up to update missing/needed data, advises/provides additional information to colleagues in bank reconciliation and accounts payable recording returns and raising the repayment, drafts and prepares communications, carries out case closing procedures; – Contributes to statistics gathering about investigation cases, and resolution aging, as part of client service; – Assists in maintaining financial institution tables and bank chains (master data management task in SAP); – Provides input for bank requirements database entries (currency of payment, requirements for payee tax ID, payment method, disbursing house bank) so that payments are correctly made via Treasury systems and Swift.

Education
High school diploma or equivalent is required.
Job – Specific Qualification
Relevant training in bank payment systems is desirable.
Work Experience
At least seven (7) years of experience in banking or finance or related fields is required. Proven experience in payments or treasury operations (using SAP, treasury management system and online payment tools) is required. Experience in fund transfer area or in payment/bank investigation area is desirable. At least three (3) years of relevant experience within the UN Common System or another comparable International Organization, is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English is required and knowledge of French is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is desirable.
Assessment
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which will be followed by competency-based interview.
