This position is located in the Conference Services Unit, Office of the Executive Secretary. The incumbent reports to the Supervisor of Conference Unit.
Responsibilities
Within delegated authority, the TV/Video Assistant will be responsible for the following duties:
Audio/Visual Conference Services
• Operates the audio control system for amplification, transmission, reception, recording and delivering the recordings of meetings.
• Installs, configures and tests audio-visual systems (microphones, datashow equipment, laptop computers, video recording, etc.) and any other equipment needed, and monitors their functioning during meetings; liaises with communication technicians for videoconferencing.
• Assists in meetings’ preparation by preparing and configuring conference hardware in various locations throughout headquarters and operates equipment during conferences.
• Provides support and training for new users of conference systems.
• Undertakes preventive maintenance of conference room equipment and advises the Supervisor on the purchases of new conference products ensuring compatibility with current operational standards and growth for future needs.
• Provides technical back-up to the simultaneous interpretation services in the different meeting rooms, ensuring that the necessary equipment has been set up in the booths and the conference room (receivers) and monitors its functioning throughout the meeting.
• Undertakes daily and monthly inventory of conference room equipment; in conjunction with the Procurement Unit, conducts an annual check of all the equipment and other items under the responsibility of the Conference Services Unit.
• Sets up the conference rooms for meetings, ensuring that they are tidy, lighting and air-conditioning are adequate and relevant nameplates and supplies are in place.
• Provides support for virtual meetings.
• Prepares links with meetings materials.
• Performs other related duties as required.
Radio Communications and Video Surveillance System Installation and Maintenance
• Installs, configures and tests radio communications and video surveillance hardware/software using available radio communication and video surveillance infrastructure.
• Assists in meetings’ preparation by preparing and configuring conference hardware in various locations throughout headquarters and operates equipment during conferences.
• Provides support and training for new users of radio communications and video surveillance equipment and systems.
• Researches and evaluates new conference products ensuring compatibility with current operational standards and growth for future needs.
• Performs other related duties as required.

Education
High school diploma or equivalent is required.
Job – Specific Qualification
Technical training on audio-visual technologies is required.
Training in protocol is desirable.
Work Experience
At least five years of experience handling relevant equipment (sound, video and other audiovisual and multimedia systems) is required. The minimum years of relevant experience is reduced to 3 for candidates who possess a first-level university degree or higher.
Experience working with computer and multimedia softwares such as: Audition, Camptasia, VLC, Premier (for video editing), Windows Media Encoder and Webex is required.
Experience providing conference services is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat and Spanish is a working language of ECLAC. For the position advertised, fluency in both English and Spanish is required.
Assessment
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.
