Are you passionate about human rights and are an experienced Researcher? Do you have experience on Ukraine and conflict? If so we are interested to hear from you.
JOB PURPOSE:
As Amnesty International’s expert on Ukraine and conflict, in the Eastern Europe and Central Asia Regional Office, lead on the development and implementation of overarching research and campaigning strategies to deliver impact in relation to agreed priorities, providing research expertise and management, political judgment, sound communication, and analytical and representational skills.
ABOUT YOU:
A collaborative, driven and conscientious researcher, you will have expert knowledge of the international human rights framework and will have worked on Eastern Europe and Central Asia with specific knowledge/experience of Ukraine. You will have knowledge of the framework for equality and non-discrimination and a good grasp of inequality, poverty, unemployment and debt as key drivers of human rights violations. You will have excellent research, analytical and writing skills, and have experience supporting on in-country research, a track record of publications, and experience with high-level advocacy. You are committed to helping, including by learning about, to embed anti-racism, intersectionality and decolonial thinking in your work and the team’s wider culture.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead on the development and implementation of research and campaign strategies to deliver impact on agreed priorities for countries within Eastern Europe and Central Asia with a strong focus on Ukraine
- Monitor, research, investigate and analyse human rights developments in a timely, accurate, impartial way and be the expert in the region
- Organise and take part in field missions, gathering data and preparing assessments and briefings
- Be an ambassador for Amnesty International in the field, particularly with regards to Ukraine, and with external parties such as government officials, civil society organisations, the media and the public
- Write and deliver high quality reports and presentations
- Help manage and develop the team including consultants and volunteers and recruitment
- Contribute to the effective maintenance of our information management system
- Contribute to strategies and plans for our region with regards to research and campaigns
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Demonstrative knowledge operating within a research and human rights context
- Specialist knowledge, including first hand experience in Ukraine
- Strong knowledge and experience of research and advocacy, using methodologies, analysing and presenting, applying research based analysis to campaigning for human rights
- Proven ability to write publishable materials for a variety of audiences
- Excellent command of English essential, fluent Ukrainian or Russian required, knowledge of other regional language highly desirable
- Experience supporting and developing staff and ensuring their safety whilst on missions and travel within the field
- Ability to assist in writing and implementing strategies and plans
- Ability to work in a sensitive manner with a wide variety of stakeholders who may be distressed
- Strong political judgment through analysis and diplomacy to develop effective strategies in human rights issues in the area
- Good team player and collaborative with others to achieve results
