The United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) is an operational arm of the United Nations, supporting the successful implementation of its partners’ peacebuilding, humanitarian and development projects around the world. Mandated as a central resource of the United Nations, UNOPS provides sustainable project management, procurement and infrastructure services to a wide range of governments, donors and United Nations organizations.
The UNOPS New York Board and External Relations Office (NYBER) manages the organization’s relationship with the Executive Board of the UN Development Programme (UNDP), the UN Population Fund (UNFPA) and UNOPS; UN Member States; and the broader UN system. The Office positions UNOPS on a variety of strategic initiatives and represents the organization on UN system-wide issues that require inter-agency collaboration and coordination.
Reporting to the UN System Affairs Advisor, the incumbent will contribute to the work of NYBER, with a focus on inter-agency mechanisms and processes that are critical to advance UNOPS’ work within the broader UN system.
(S)he will have a good understanding of international development and multilateralism, strong communication skills, especially written ones, demonstrated willingness to work as part of a team in a multicultural environment, excellent analytical skills, the ability to manage multiple tasks, work effectively under pressure on time-sensitive issues, and act with discretion in a politically sensitive and complex environment.

Education:
- A Master’s degree in a relevant field such as Business Administration, Public Administration, International Development, Political Science, International Relations or related studies is required.
- A Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) combined with 2 additional years of relevant work experience may be accepted in lieu of the Master’s degree.
Experience:
- A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in international development, public affairs, advocacy or a related area is required.
- Prior experience working in the UN system is essential.
- Coordination experience and experience in establishing relationships with UN system entities, development organizations and/or government counterparts is required.
- Knowledge of inter-agency and intergovernmental processes is desirable.
Languages:
- Full working knowledge of English is required.
- Knowledge of another official UN language is an asset.

- Contract duration: Ongoing ICA – Open-ended, subject to organizational requirements, availability of funds and satisfactory performance.

Terms and Conditions
- For staff positions only, UNOPS reserves the right to appoint a candidate at a lower level than the advertised level of the post.
- For retainer contracts, you must complete a few mandatory courses ( they take around 4 hours to complete) in your own time, before providing services to UNOPS. Refreshers or new mandatory courses may be required during your contract. Please note that you will not receive any compensation for taking courses and refreshers.
