The UX/UI Expert is expected to fulfill the following deliverables: – Completed project plan upon inception of projects – Technical documentation and user manual for assigned projects, including dataflow and entity relationship diagrams; – Initial design and mock-up – Progress reports with time sheets indicating the fulfillment/progress of requested tasks/activities – Final Source code/Design/Images/Animations and all assets related to the website and web applications being developed – Any other output as may be agreed upon with ESCWA

Duties and Responsibilities
Background: As part of the efforts from ICTS department in expanding and improving ESCWA technological capacities and its Digital Transformation to be a reference point for the Arab Region, the department is invested in several initiatives and projects involving data management, data pipelines, data visualizations, pre-processing, Machine Learning and optimization, web development, web hosting, User Interface (UI), User Experience (UX), and graphic design. Therefore, there is a need for technical talent to implement these projects while increasing ESCWA technological awareness and capacity building, with the goal of opting for in-house solutions whenever possible. In this context, the role of UX/UI Expert is critical for the creation and maintenance of websites that are user-friendly, intuitive, and compliant with UN established standards. Duties and Responsibilities: Under the overall guidance of the Chief of ICTS and the unit lead, with direct supervision and guidance from the technical team leader, the UX/UI will perform the following tasks: – Create the look, layout, and features of a website in attractive professional graphic design in an intuitive, user-friendly style and design collaterals; – Develop frontend for websites using UN established standards for web development, IT technologies, programming languages and tools; – Interpret user requirements and translate these into systems specifications; – Analyse and advise on innovative web-based solutions; – Prepare technical and user documentation for deployed website, application systems, as well as training materials and conducts technical presentations; – Maintain functional specifications for websites, programs and procedures developed and/or modified; – Provide support for deployed websites including version management, data recovery, and deployment; – Organizes and performs unit and integrated testing, designing and utilizing test bases; – Support digitization, visualization, and development of infographics for various products – Trains staff on completed systems/applications.
Qualifications/special skills
A Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Web Design, Web Development, Information Systems, Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related fields is required. All candidates must submit a copy of the required educational degree. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed. A minimum of 8 years of professional work experience in digital design in a multi-developer and cross browser environment with extensive knowledge of web-development (HTML, Cascading Style Sheet (CSS)) and any Javascript dialect/framework, responsive design, multilingual/localized websites, including applying knowledge of user experience (UX) and user interface (UI) concepts and principles is required. Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, especially Photoshop and Illustrator is required. At least 1 year experience with version control such as GIT is required. Knowledge on content management systems, such as Drupal or WordPress, modules and taxonomies is desirable. Understanding of industry trends, latest web development standards, and technologies is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat; and Arabic is a working language of ESCWA. For this position, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of Arabic is desirable. Note: “Fluency” equals a rating of ‘fluent’ in all four areas (speak, read, write, and understand) and “Knowledge of” equals a rating of ‘confident’ in two of the four areas.
