This position is located in the Transport Section of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS), Bentiu. The Vehicle Technician will report to the Motor Transport Officer or his/her designate.
Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Motor Transport Officer (MTO) of the UNMISS Transport Bentiu Field Office, the incumbent will be responsible for the execution of routine and unforeseen repair services on a varied and mixed fleet of vehicles at UNMISS Transport Bentiu Field Office by the standards of vehicle manufacture and United Nations Ground Transportation Guidelines. He/she must ensure that all relevant safety and workshop procedures are followed when repairing, replacing, or fitting parts as well as other related tasks as required. The tasks consist of: • Perform routine preventive and corrective vehicle maintenance, by the vehicle manufacturer’s mandatory standards as per United Nations guidelines. • Diagnose and resolve various motor vehicle faults and breakdowns, including electronic / electrical components such as alternators, starters, air-conditioning system, etc. • Perform repair works on all types of mechanical and electronic components, engines, gearboxes, and motor vehicle transmission drive axles, as required. • Perform complete maintenance of a wide range of heavy trucks, semi-trailers, Material handling Equipment, Engineering Equipment and light vehicles. • Drive trucks, medium buses, minibuses and light 4×4 vehicles if necessary. • In case of breakdown out of the duty station, drive tow trucks (recovery truck) for breakdown services and can recover immobilized vehicles with minimal supervision following the United Nations procedures and standards. • Observes standard operation procedure and Safety practices and maintains cleanliness of work area and tools. • Perform various other tasks as directed by the Supervisor and Workshop Manager.

Education
High school/Automotive Technical or vocational diploma is required.
Job – Specific Qualification
A valid driving license of category -B (light vehicle) is required. A valid driving license for heavyweight vehicles and MHE is desirable.
Work Experience
At least three (3) years of experience in installing, inspecting, troubleshooting, maintaining and repairing all the mechanical and electrical wiring and electronic components in heavy trucks and Light Vehicles is required. The minimum years of relevant experience is reduced to one (1) for candidates who possess a first-level university degree or higher. Having the skills and knowledge in the maintenance and repair of Auto- Electrical systems in heavy trucks and light vehicles is required. Have the skills and knowledge using diagnostic tools to test and make accurate diagnostic assessments of electrical faults and rectify these faults is desirable. Experience in repairing Material Handling Equipment (MHE), Engineering and/or Specialized Equipment is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this position advertised, fluency in English (both oral and written) is required.
Assessment
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.
