Within the User Support and Climate Services Division of the EUMETSAT Operations and Services to Users Department, the Data Centre Operations Team operates the EUMETSAT Data Centre Archive and the online EUMETSAT data access services. These services provide the permanent storage (Long Term Data Preservation) of EUMETSAT’s satellite data and the discovery, search and access of this data by the user community.
In preparation of EUMETSAT’s future satellite missions, with a focus on the Second Generation Polar Orbiting Satellite programme (EPS-SG), the Archive and Online Data Access Operations Engineer will play a key role in ensuring the successful and complete routine archiving as well as the optimal online on- demand user access of data and products from these satellites.
The successful candidate will join a motivated and busy Operations team. This position will contribute to the coordination of the routine tasks of the team as well as leading evolutions and validation of updates to the archive and the online data access services. A close cooperation with the engineering teams responsible for these upgrades is essential.

The initial contract will be of 4 years’ duration, with subsequent 5 year contracts being awarded thereafter, subject to individual performance and organisation requirements. There is no limit to the amount of follow-up contracts a staff member can receive up to the EUMETSAT retirement age of 63 and there are certainly opportunities to establish a long career perspective at EUMETSAT.
This post is graded A2/A4 on the EUMETSAT salary scales. The minimum basic salary for this post is EURO 6903 per month (net of internal tax but excluding pension contribution and insurances) which may be negotiable on the basis of skills and experience. The salary scale provides for increments on the anniversary of taking up employment, and scales are reviewed by the EUMETSAT Council with effect from 1 January each year.
