VN 24/30 Additional Data Services Coordination Engineer

EUMETSAT is Europe’s meteorological satellite agency. Its role is to establish and operate meteorological satellites to monitor the weather and climate from space – 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. This information is supplied to the National Meteorological Services of the organisation’s Member and Cooperating States in Europe, as well as other users worldwide.

EUMETSAT will also operate, on behalf of the European Union, Copernicus satellites and instruments that provide data and support services to the Copernicus marine, atmospheric composition and climate change monitoring information services and to Copernicus users.

Within the Additional Data Services (ADS) Team of the Real Time Services and System Operations (RSO) Division, the post-holder supports the coordination of operations of Additional Data Services.

Duties

The main duties are as follows:

  • Coordinate the operations between EUMETSAT and NOAA, acting as the Deputy Chair for the joint Operations Working Group;
  • Coordinate the end-to-end operations of third-party data services, ensuring alignment with the operational services requirements;
  • Act as the Coordinator of the Additional Data Service (ADS) Coordination Group;
  • Act as the Technical Officer for Commercial Third-Party Data Services;
  • Analyse operations and propose improvements to the systems and processes used by the ADS Team, ensuring they satisfy the existing and new user requirements;
  • Define and coordinate the ADS-related operational interfaces with the external partners and service providers;
  • Support planning, co-ordination and reporting of day-to-day ADS operations;
  • Plan and organise upgrades, maintenance and evolutions of ADS systems;
  • Coordinate ADS anomaly investigations and their resolutions;
  • Prepare and maintain operational documents for the Additional Data Services.

QUALIFICATIONS

University Degree in a relevant subject or equivalent professional experience.

LANGUAGES

The official languages of EUMETSAT are English and French. Candidates must be able to work effectively in English and have some knowledge of French.

Skills and Experience

  • Proven experience in coordinating operational data services, systems and activities;
  • Proven experience interfacing with stakeholders, internal and external partners and industry;
  • Demonstrated experience in analysis and problem solving in a technical context;
  • Strengths in understanding complex problems and presenting solutions;
  • Ability in planning, organising and co-ordination of activities;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, the ability to work in a team and in an international environment;
  • Demonstrated proactive approach and willingness to accept responsibility;
  • The following are advantageous:
    • Experience in contract management in the area of data services;
    • Experience working in a space related area.

Employment Conditions

The initial contract will be of 4 years’ duration, with subsequent 5 year contracts being awarded thereafter, subject to individual performance and organisation requirements. There is no limit to the amount of follow-up contracts a staff member can receive up to the EUMETSAT retirement age of 63 and there are certainly opportunities to establish a long career perspective at EUMETSAT.
This post is graded A2/A4 on the EUMETSAT salary scales. The minimum basic salary for this post is EURO 7146 per month (net of internal tax but excluding pension contribution and insurances) which may be negotiable on the basis of skills and experience. The salary scale provides for increments on the anniversary of taking up employment, and scales are reviewed by the EUMETSAT Council with effect from 1 January each year.
