Organizational Setting

The Department of Management (MT) provides a ‘platform of services’ that serves as a foundation for the successful delivery of the IAEA’s scientific and technical programmes. Its mission statement is as follows: “MT is a partner and a business enabler that champions change and efficiency, leveraging a common purpose”. Thus, among other support activities, it assists a scientific manager in recruiting the right expert, helps a technical officer coordinate the purchase of radiation equipment, and ensures that all Board documents are translated and distributed on a timely basis to Member States.

The Division of General Services (MTGS) provides support functions to the IAEA through its four Sections, namely the Archives and Records Section (ARMS), the Commissary Management Section (CMS), the Facilities Management and General Support Section (FMGSS) and the Seibersdorf Laboratories Services Section (SLSS).

The Commissary Management Section manages the Commissary at the Vienna International Centre. The Commissary is a tax and duty-free store that is operated under the authority of the Director General of the IAEA. It was established as a self-sustaining and non-profit making operation in order to facilitate the purchase of limited quantities of consumer goods by the diplomats of Permanent Missions of Member States accredited to the UN organizations, staff members of the UN organizations based at the VIC as well as of other authorized organizations.

Main Purpose

Under the day-to-day supervision of the Warehouse Supervisor and/or the Assistant Warehouse Supervisor and under the general supervision of the Head, Sales and Warehouse Unit, to perform manual work in the Warehouse including unloading trucks and trailers, sorting and checking pallets, crates and boxes, putting the goods on the Warehouse shelves for storage and transferring them to the Salesroom upon request. He/she is expected to perform his/her routine duties independently.

Functions / Key Results Expected

– Receive, check and take over all incoming deliveries by unloading trucks and trailers using motorised forklifts. Dismantle the sealed pallets, sort and count the boxes, check the box contents and expiry dates, identify the goods and check these details against delivery documents and/or invoices and report any discrepancies.
– Arrange for the effective and appropriate handling and storage of goods in the warehouse halls, while observing the prevailing safety regulations and adhering to the first-in-first-out principle. Assist in the established book-stock adjustment procedures and take part in the yearly inventory including data input.
– Prepare and transfer the merchandise from the warehouse shelves to the salesroom and the bulk-sale outlet based on the stock vouchers and urgent requisitions received from the salesroom. This activity requires strict adherence to the first-in-first-out principle.
If assigned, take part in the Commissary’s on-call duty scheme established to cover cases of emergency outside the Commissary opening hours including weekends.
– If assigned, take over duties in the Salesroom area.

Qualifications, Experience and Language skills

Completed secondary education.

Minimum of two years of relevant working experience including warehousing and handling of consumer goods.

Forklift driving licence.

Excellent oral and written command of English. Knowledge of other official IAEA languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish) is an asset.

Administrative skills test to IAEA standard might be part of the recruitment process.

Remuneration

The IAEA offers an attractive remuneration package including a tax-free annual net base salary starting at EUR 36249 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance), 6 weeks’ annual vacation, pension plan and health insurance.
