Since 2012, PSI has been a leader in developing markets for sanitation, and our newest team member will play an integral role in helping PSI take sanitation access to scale by strengthening local market systems. We support a portfolio of WASH projects in 10 countries, with a focus on advancing local leadership and innovation. We are a small, nimble, collaborative team that works hard and has a lot of fun.

We are looking for an entrepreneurial, independent, passionate person to join our rapidly growing global WASH Team as a Technical Advisor I.

PSI seeks an Advisor I, Technical that will Support the technical functions of a technical department, project, or network member, including supporting implementation of technical activities in line with PSI and global best practices. May contribute to internal capacity building efforts across the PSI network.

Salary Range:

Technical Advisor I: $69,000 (MINIMUM) – $86,000 (MID-POINT) – $103,000 (MAXIMUM)

Technical Advisor II: $86,000 (MINIMUM) – $108,000 (MID-POINT) – $130,000 (MAXIMUM)

For US-based candidates, the annual base salary range is reflected above.* We value transparency and have provided the full salary range for this role. Actual base salary compensation will be determined by factors such as a candidate’s qualifications, experience, internal equity, external market analysis, and other business factors permitted by law. Hiring above the mid-point of the range would not be typical in order to allow for potential future salary growth. Your contributions

The WASH Technical Advisor I will have the following responsibilities:

  • Technical: Contribute to the development and implementation of the department’s, project’s, or network member’s technical activities and strategy. Provide remote and in-country technical assistance to build capacity of network members to effectively deliver results in line with PSI and global best practices and the department’s, project’s, or network member’s technical strategy. Contribute to development and implementation of department’s, project’s, or network member’s workplans in collaboration with program management team with oversight from manager. Contribute to report writing and development of technical guidance. 45% of Time
  • Program Management: Provide inputs into development of budget by department’s, project’s, or network member’s program management team. 20% of Time
  • Thought Leadership / Knowledge Management: Contribute to the development and implementation of the department’s, project’s, or network member’s thought leadership and knowledge management agenda, including the development and internal and external dissemination of technical and programmatic briefs, webinars, reports, and manuscripts. 15% of Time
  • Representation: Represent the department, project, or network member internally within the PSI network. May represent the department, project, or network member externally. 10% of Time
  • Fundraising: Contribute to new business development by writing or reviewing proposals. 10% of Time

In addition to the duties described above The WASH Technical Advisor II will have the following responsibilities:

  • Lead development of various workstreams, including work plan and strategy development
  • Lead development of technical tools and guidance documents
  • Represent PSI to external partners and donors
  • Lead development and writing of proposals to a variety of donors
  • May manage people and provide mentoring and coaching

What are we looking for?

  • Bachelor’s Degree (or international equivalent) in a related field
  • Master’s Degree (or international equivalent) in a related field (e.g., MPH, MSc, MPP, MPA, MBA) preferred
  • At least 5 years of experience in the WASH sector for a Technical Advisor I or 7 years for a Technical Advisor II, including experience in sanitation. Experience with market-based approaches to WASH are strongly preferred. Equivalent combination of related education and experience may be substituted.
  • At least 2 years of experience providing multi-country technical assistance to WASH programs preferred
  • Demonstrate technical knowledge in relevant technical area.
  • Ability to provide technical assistance to the PSI network with support.
  • Ability to produce technical products and tools with oversight and direction.
  • Ability to develop and maintain relationships with internal colleagues. Able to work as a member of a team and independently
  • Ability to contribute to technical approach for proposals.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability.
  • Demonstrate emotional intelligence and ability to collaborate with colleagues.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365. Familiarity with a quantitative or qualitative data analysis program preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written. Ability to communicate effectively and complete oral and written assignments in both French and English is required.
