Duties and Responsibilities
The individual contractor will work closely with our team, he/she ensures that the new sites integrate seamlessly with our new brand delivering a polished and engaging experience within the existing UNCTAD website (unctad.org), ensuring seamless navigation between them. The web designer will also create a special edition homepage for unctad.org to be used in the lead up to and during UNCTAD16 to optimize visibility and accessibility of conference-related content. The mini-sites should be mobile-friendly, highly intuitive, incorporate advanced search functionality and possibly AI to help users quickly find relevant information, such as sessions, speakers and documents. The design should also ensure smooth integration with a conference app for mobile use. The Web Designer will be part of the web team of the Communication and External Relations (CER) Unit of the Office of the Secretary-General. They will report to the Public Information Officer (web and digital), who leads the CER web team. The designer will also work closely with: • The UNCTAD graphic designers to align with branding guidelines. • The IT team to ensure technical feasibility. • The UNCTAD16 coordination team for content structuring. The web designer will be responsible for: • Creating mock-ups for the UNCTAD16 mini-sites for desktop, tablet, mobile and app. • Developing wire frames and interactive prototypes to illustrate user journeys and functionality and ensure seamless navigation between the UNCTAD16 and related forum mini-sites. • Building a user interface (UI) kits to ensure all event-related pages maintain a consistent look and feel while allowing for minor variations. Elements of the kit will include typography guidelines, colour palettes, buttons, icons, input fields, navigation elements, cards and containers, grid and spacing rules. • Designing an UNCTAD16-based homepage for unctad.org. • Collaborating with UNCTAD’s graphic design team to align with corporate branding guidelines. • Ensuring accessibility compliance in line with UN standards.
Qualifications/special skills
– A High School diploma and formal training in web design is required. – At least 8 years of working experience in web design is required – Proven experience designing large-scale event websites or conference platforms is required – Proficiency in HTML, CSS, and front-end development principles to support implementation is required – Experience with prototyping and wire framing tools, such as Adobe XD and integrating designs with mobile apps is required – A strong understanding of user-centered design principles and intuitive navigation structures is required – Experience with Drupal-based websites is desirable
Languages
Fluency oral and written in English is required. Knowledge of French is desirable
